Description:This photograph of Penkhull Street in Newcastle was taken in 1927 and shows canopied shop fronts down the right hand side. In the foreground of the picture, also to the right, a small boy crouches down to pick something up from the pavement. To the left if the photograph the overhead power cables of the tram system can be seen as well as the Guildhall with its prominent clock tower.
