Description:This photograph captures the moment when families began moving from Paradise Street, the 19th century terraced houses that were a source of much illness and disease in Newcastle-under-Lyme, to the purpose built council houses on Beattie Avenue in the late 30s. As the removal men load up a wagon with belongings children play and chat on the pavement, probably not knowing if they were to be neighbours after the move.
