Description:This photograph shows the Boys' Middle School in Newcastle-under-Lyme in 1915.
The Boys' Middle School was founded in 1872 and was housed in the Orme School buildings on the Higherland.
A new building was erected for the pupils at Orme Girls' School as they had previously occupied the site.
The Middle School was open to boys between the ages of eight and sixteen.
All pupils were charged tuition fees and were required to pass an entrance examination in reading, writing, and arithmetic before they were allowed to enter the school.
