Description:Clock-making in the midlands has a long and diverse history, with the earliest known clock to date from 1473.

The area has since been producing various types until the mid nineteenth century. Numbers of clockmakers in the area fell by the 1851 Census, as the trade could no longer complete against overseas machine made clocks and watches.

This pocket watch was produced by Limit and sold by J.G. Cartwright of 31, George Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme.
