Description:Joseph Trapp was an English Clergyman, academic, poet and pamphleteer; his achievements led him to be the first Professor of Poetry at Oxford University. His book is his most remembered work and is stated to have took him twenty-eight years to finish, as he reviewed it as a past-time. This edition of the book was published in three volumes between 1731-1735, after Trapp made alterations from his books Aeneis which was published in two volumes in 1718 and 1720. Inside the book is a handwritten sentence ‘John Tomlinson 1738 and Mary Hopkin,’ who was believed to have owned the book at some point. Currently we lack information about who and where Tomlinson lived.

“Writing has, in a cartain Refpect, been compared to Building: And I find the Comparifon to be juft. In Both we are infenfibly drawn on from one Thing to another; and do much more than we firft intened. Thirteen Years fince, I publifh’d a Tranflation of Virigil’s Aeneis: then faid in my Preface, and faid very truly, that even That was far advanced, before I was aware, or had the leaft Thought of undertaking the Whole.” P.i-ii.

Note: Before 19th century in books an 's' often looked like 'f'.
