Date:1958
Description:This beautifully made dress was worn by Mrs Padgett on her wedding day 17 September 1958. She bought it from Harrods in London for her special day. The dress is made from a luxurious cream brocade, it has a square neckline, pleated bodice and zip down the centre back. It features long sleeves with triangle shaped cuffs which are fastened with rouleau loop and button. The skirt is full with a train and has a stiff underskirt. The wedding of American actress Grace Kelly to Prince Rainer III of Monaco influenced the style of wedding dresses in the late 1950s. Because of this 'Princess' style dresses with full skirts and sweetheart neckline became poplular.
