Description:During the Victorian era christening gowns became more elaborate as textiles became cheaper. Christening gowns sometimes copied the current fashion trends. This dress has 'whitework' (a style of white on white embroidery) which would have been popular at the time. This gown features Ayrshire work which is white fine embroidery that centres on the chest panel. Victorian families were often big, each child would wear the same christening dress.
