Description:F.H. Burgess, the agricultural merchants, can still be seen in this photograph in the bottom right hand corner as the Fine Fare development, which was the Warner Brothers Cinema in 2005, had yet to be built. When the Fine Fare development was built F.H. Burgess relocated to the other side of the A34 to what was Morrissons' car park in 2005. Also opposite this site the Midway car park and offices have yet to be constructed. The dark facade of the Globe Hotel in Red Lion Square is visible on the left hand side of this photograph, and was demolished just a few years after this photograph was taken. The Civic Offices have yet to be built and the Municipal Hall is still in existance here, which became the site of Newcastle Library. The roundabout of Nelson Place has yet to be enlarged, and the Roxy Cinema can be seen in between King and Brunswick street. The area in the centre of this photograph was being developed in 2002 as new retail units linking the Ironmarket and the bus station.
