Description:This photograph records the laying of the 12th Gas Main at Audley in 1921, engineered by John Mottram.

The church visible through the trees is that of St. James. The church was largely built in the 14th century though it was restored by Scott in the mid 19th century. It contains many monuments including a brass to Sir Thomas de Audley.
