Description:The Borough Police Force are here seen pictured with the Mayor of Newcastle, William Mellard. They are outside Mellard's home, The Beeches, which stood on Liverpool Road (now the site of a bus depot). On the back row they are PCs Robinson, Beeston, and Ford. On the second row are PCs Phillips, Bate, Eaton, Watkin, Black, Plant, Byatt, Hawley, Lowe, and D.O. Morris. The mounted Policeman on the left is PC Rawlinson with Sergt. Gillies on the right. On the front row are PC Knight, PC Welch, Sergy. Cotton, Mr William Forster (Chief constable), William Mellard, Esq., J.P. (Mayor), Insp. Cook, Sergt. Connolly, PC Morgan, PC Chattin. Mick the Police dog is captured in the foreground.
