Description:At the time of this photograph these buildings were located on what was then known as Penkhull Street, before the whole street became known as the High Street in 1954. The tall building on the left is the covered market hall, which was built in 1854, in order to supplement the portable street markets that took place outside, and was demolished in 1961. This site was the entrance to the Warner Brothers cinema in 2002. The building to the right of the Market Hall is Woolworths, who were still trading in the new building they built on the site in 2002.
