Description:This photograph was taken after a local party had travelled through the Telford Canal Tunnel, one of the Harecastle Tunnels, during the Festival of Britain.

"Glyn Jones has his hand on the shoulders of man I do not know. the man with the receding hair is Norman Roach the man behind and to the left is Fred Rodgers all three that I have named were Public Health Officers at Kidsgrove.The Lady St Johns nurse surname is cooper, Right the at the back of the narrow boat there is another St Johns Nurse the name is Mrs. N. Parry, Nurse Coopers daughter".

"I can say that I went through the Tunnel in the evening with the Chairman and the Members of Kidsgrove Urban District Council as my farther was one at that time, my sister was also on that trip. I would have been about Seven at that time. we came back by coach to Kidsgrove from Chatterley through Tunstall".
