Description:A drawing of Madeley Old Hall by M. Scott. The drawing is inscribed on the back, 'house at Madeley Staffordshire where Charles 1st stayed after Boscobel'.
However Scott had the wrong man, it was actually his son who later became King Charles II who stayed at Madeley Old Hall.
Charles II hid at Boscobel House in 1651 in Shropshire after he suffered a defeat during the Civil War. He was trying to regain the the throne from Oliver Cromwell after his father King Charles I was executed by in 1649.

A mocking inscription can be seen above the first window, '16 Wallk k nave what look est at 47.ISB'.
