Description:A drawing of a panoramic view of Newcastle from Clayton, by J. Buckler. The close relation between the town and the countryside can be seen in this drawing, with livestock being kept on fields in the foreground. The extent of Newcastle has yet to spread to the surrounding fields and hills, and a number of mills can be made out, large employers of the time.
