Description:The Orme Girls School was founded in 1876 and attracted pupils from a wide area, some travelled in by train while others boarded in the area. The school was originally only designed for one hundred girls but became so popular that it was enlarged in 1886. The school became a grammar school during its first decade and the fees were between £4 and £5 a year. In 1981 the school became independent and merged with The Newcastle High School to become Newcastle-under-Lyme School. This photograph shows the front of the school facing Victoria Road.
