Description:A watercolour of the Wedgwood Monument by Alf Fallows.
The Wedgwood Monument is at Butters Green. The obelisk commemorates the life of John Wedgwood. Heir to his father's wealth from his father's pottery and mining, Wedgwood was a rather eccentric figure who lived the life of a country squire at his house in Bignall End. Prior to his death in 1839 he left instructions in his will to have the monument erected in his memory. The monument now stands to a quarter of its original height having succumbed to a gale on January 23rd 1976.
