Description:This is a small piece of bomb shrapnel from one of the two German Zeppelin air raids on the Midlands in 1916. One was recorded on the 31st January 1916 and the other on the night of 27th and 28th of November 1916. The raids took many civilians by surprise as it wasn't thought that Zeppelins could reach that far inland. On both occasions, multiple bombs were dropped over Tunstall, Trentham, Etruria, Kidsgrove and Chesterton but caused no great damage. Still, it brought the reality of the war home.
