Description:The Dorothy Perkins brand began as H.P. Newman, a drapers, in 1909. The first Dorothy Perkins shop opened in 1919, specializing in women’s clothing. The Newcastle-undef-Lyme shop on Ironmarket opened in the late 1960s. By then, there were about 250 shops across the country. In around 1993, it moved to the High Street as part of the Roebuck Centre. After the Covid lockdowns, the Arcadia group, which owned Dorothy Perkins, went into administration. The store closed in 2020 and is now an online-only brand.
