Description:This is the view down the side of the Lancaster Buildings on High Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme. Greenwoods Menswear and the sign for Mellards Hardware can be seen on the left hand side. Greenwoods began as a hatter’s shop in 1860, and closed in 2019. Mellards Ironmongers was a staple of the Newcastle High Street for many years. At the time of writing (December 2024) there is a replica Mellards Ironmongers shop on the first floor of the Brampton Museum and Art Gallery, containing objects from the original store.
