Description:The Mayor Choosing ceremony is a tradition in Newcastle-under-Lyme. The newly elected mayor, Ethel Shaw, stands proudly in his regalia in front of the market cross. The sign for the Borough Museum and Art Gallery can be seen behind the group of people. The Museum moved up to 'The Firs' Brampton Park in 1956 from the Lancaster Buildings.
