Date:1876 - 1900 (c.)
Description:The stone building in the centre of this photograph was used at one time as the office of the Weights and Measures Inspector, and was demolished in 1926. Previously it had stood in the High Street, to the south of the Guildhall. St. Giles' church can be seen in the background, as it appears today. An old coaching inn, the Three Tuns can be seen on the left here, and has long since been demolished. Wain's the Chemist is pictured in its familiar position at the top of Red Lion Square, after it had moved in the 1890s from the row of shops seen here on the left.
