Description:This photograph shows the line of the old railway and canal, with the buildings of the railway goods yard on the left. The road on the right hand side is Water Street and the tall building is the Police Station.

Newcastle railway station was situated off King street, across from the Borough Arms Hotel. The line, which originally went from Stoke to Newcastle was opened in 1852, with an extension to Market Drayton in 1870. The line was closed in 1965, the station demolished, and cuttings filled in.
