Description:This photograph shows some back yards of houses on Rye Bank. Like many other houses identified for demolition at the time they appear very cramped with poor conditions for living. If you look at the clearance area plan you can see three outbuildings in the back yard which most likely were outdoor toilets serving the surrounding properties.

The houses have several alterations and additions to the original buildings. One ground floor extension has a chimney, possibly a laundry which would have had a coal fire to heat the water in a copper for washing.
